The RTA helps pay for extra evening, weekend, and express bus services through Sun Tran. The RTA also funds the Sun Link streetcar, Sun Shuttle neighborhood routes, and Sun Shuttle Dial-a-Ride for people with disabilities.
Sun Tran’s extra bus routes and the Sun Link streetcar completed as part of the 2006 voter-approved RTA plan. These services continue to be funded under the 2026 voter-approved RTA plan.
The City of Tucson operates the Sun Link streetcar, which runs 3.9 miles. It was built using RTA money, federal grants, and local funds. The route connects the Mercado District, downtown Tucson, 4th Avenue, Main Gate Square, and the University of Arizona campus. About 100,000 people live and work within one mile of the streetcar route.
The RTA Sun Shuttle runs 12 neighborhood routes across the region. It connects to Sun Tran buses and is open to riders of all ages. Shuttles run on set schedules to make transfers easy.
Sun Shuttle Dial-a-Ride gives door-to-door rides for people with disabilities who live outside Tucson, or for Tucson residents traveling outside the city.
The RTA contracts with MTM Transit to operate the Sun Shuttle and Sun Shuttle Dial-a-Ride services.
